Background
My own personal site, which has been running since 1999, recently received a re-design.
Details
Despite this being my own site, I did layout a design brief based around how I interact with the site and the content I publish on it. Previously I had a three column design, with the content on the right, and the left-most columns holding navigation and a 'miniblog' area. As my writing style has evolved I found myself posting more to the miniblog, and the content of those posts was becoming longer. Previously it was used a linkdump.
With that in mind, I switched to two columns, moving the site navigation to the 'header' area, alongside a random selection of photos and a "recent posts" list. That allowed me to expand the width of the miniblog to handle the change in length of post there. The design allows me to focus on the longer "content" posts and should make the quality of them a little better.
