What the customer said:
"Our site looks terrific and is already getting some great feedback from customers. It's very clear and easy to use, and is just what we were looking for. Gordon has excellent ideas and the skills to execute them."
July 2007 Update: Customer is still gaining business leads due to the website. Was happy to order another year of support.
Background
The brief was to create a showcase site featuring samples of work, spread across different areas of the companies expertise. The site had to be easy to use, navigate and allow users to view larger size photos of previous jobs.
Details
The target audience is expected to be novice PC users, and as such the site offers only one level navigation, with the navigation remaining constant on every page. As the main focus was the photos, the bulk of the work involved their preparation and treatment.
The site includes quotes from previous customers, and the layout evolved to the final design to compensate for the need for small pieces of text in a photo dominated website. Placing the photos in the bottom half of the screen (and below) allows the first row or so to be seen, and encourages the user to scroll down to explore the other examples on the page. A subtle highlight in the menu helps the user know where they are at all times, and the site also includes a contact form for potential customers.
