Background
European Blogger of the year in 2005, Zoe had mentioned she wanted a re-design a few times before I got in touch with her. Her guiding principle was 'plum', and that she liked the current layout of her site but wanted it 'spruced up'.
Details
The current layout of the site was a fairly standard two column design, with the content in one column on the left, the navigation on the right. To offer better support to people with lower resolutions, I limited the width of the page, keeping the width of the main content similar but shrinking the right hand navigation column. I also moved the main site navigation to just under the site banner making sure to keep it subtle to not distract the eye from the content and using a simple mouseover to highlight each navigation choice.
Zoe also had several pages of photos which used a different page template, and I took the same approach with those pages, applying the template I created, and adding in the site navigation to the bottom of each page. Updating the site should be a lot easier with the template based design, previously each batch of photo pages were slightly different.
Lastly I re-coded every page on her site, and applied the new template to her Blogger account. The finishing touch was a smoother (anti-aliased) version of her banner text.
